Thank you to all of you who made it out to our meeting yesterday

I wanted to thank all of you who made it out to our meeting yesterday.

We had a pretty good showing & the sushi was pretty yummy too - although I couldn't convince Frank to eat any raw fish. We'll let him by though since he said that he has seen some pretty gruesome things while stationed abroad from people eating raw food.

Other than our great speaker, Frank Antenori, we added a new member, Trent Humphies, who spoke at our last meeting and is running for the Arizona State House in LD26.

We also re-elected Paul Pak as our club secretary & approved our new club Constitution with a few minor changes from our original proposal.

We also scheduled our next meeting for 7 p.m. on Monday, May 12 also at Shogun Sushi. I will get you more info as it comes in and as the day gets closer. So make sure that you mark the day down on your calenders. It will be the day after Mothers' Day, so we'll be getting a full report on who was nicest to their own mom.

I will also be getting the full meeting minutes out to the club as soon as they become available. Thanks again.

Liberals Should be Allowed to Realize their Dream by Voluntarily Paying Higher Taxes

I just received an email forwarded to me from Paul Pak, current Secretary of our Pima County YR Club, that I just had to share with all of you. The email sent to Paul was from Republican Congressman John Campbell who represents the Newport Beach, California in the US Congress.

I think that Congressman Campbell has a great idea. We shouldn't stand in the way of wealthy liberals realizing their dream of voluntarily paying even more money in taxes to help pay for all of the government programs that they so love. So, call Gabrielle Giffords and Raul Grijalva and tell them if the bill gets to the floor that we'd love for them to vote for the bill.

-------------------------

(From Congressman Campbell)

Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is: Earlier this week, Senator Hillary Clinton said "We didn't ask for George Bush's tax cuts. We didn't want them and we didn't need them." Earlier this year, Warren Buffett testified before Congress saying in part "I think we need to....take a little more out of the hides of guys like me." Barbara Streisand once said "Republicans cater to the rich. I'd rather pay more taxes, see social reform, health care and research for AIDS."

All of these people could have voluntarily paid more in taxes. But they chose not to. Maybe that's because it is not easy or clear how you can pay extra taxes if you want to.

I am here to help. This week, I introduced the "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is Act." Under this bill, a line would be added to the tax form 1040 which would easily allow you to add as much additional tax as you would like over the amount that has been computed. Furthermore, you can call for the money to be spent rather than just applied to pay down the deficit. Under this bill, all those people who want to see the Bush tax cuts repealed could easily pay that extra tax. After all, shouldn't they lead by example?

Yep, the Clintons, Obamas, Streisand, Buffett, Charlie Rangel can all pay more tax to show us they mean it and they can fund their favorite earmarks or whatever Congress wants to fund with that money.

Just don't ask the rest of us, through government fiat, to pay what you want to pay and fund what you want to fund.

By the way, Senator Clinton was invited to the press conference we had to introduce this bill. I didn't see her there. Maybe her "check got lost in the mail?"

Pigs: Last week, Citizens Against Government Waste introduced their annual "Pig Book" with all of the worst "pork" and worst "porkers" in Congress. I could tell you about it in writing here, but I appeared on Fox News last Sunday to talk about it. So, here is that 5 minute clip about what's in the "Pig Book" and what it means. Oink.

Until next week, I remain respectfully,

Congressman John Campbell

Final Reminder About April 14 Meeting!

This is a copy of the last email that I sent out on the Pima County YR list serve:

------------------------------

Greetings all Pima YRs-

This is the final reminder that I will be sending out regarding our meeting next Monday! Here's the details:

------------------------------

Time:

Monday, April 14, 2008
7:00 pm
Place:

Shogun Sushi
5036 N Oracle Rd
Tucson, AZ 85704
(520) 888-6646

(In the Shopping Center on the northeast corner of River & Oracle Rds)
------------------------------

We will have a very full meeting schedule on Monday.

Our main orders of business will be:

1) Electing a new club Secretary

This is the last elected position that we still need to fill in the club.

&

2) Approving the new Club Constitution & By-Laws

Vice-Chairman Mike Cole and myself went over our current Constitution and By-laws and wanted to combine the two documents to: make them easier to use; make sure they were more applicable for a club of our size; reduce redundancies; and remove any inconsistencies and contradictions that may have existed between the two documents. I have attached a copy of the proposed new Constitution & By-Laws to this email so that anybody who wants can look over the new document before we vote on whether to accept it during Monday's meeting.

(Obviously the attached document is not here, but you can email me if you would like a copy of the proposal.)

3) We will be having a very engaging and important speaker in Mr. Frank Antenori

I previously sent out a short bio on Frank. He is running for the State House of Representatives in LD30. He is running as a traditional candidate, so if anybody would like to donate to his campaign, you can do so at Monday's meeting. If you would like to know more about Frank and his campaign, you can visit his campaign website @ www.vote4frank.com.

4) Delelopment of our Fundraising Campaign & Conservative Scholarship Program

We will also begin our discussion of our developing fundraising campaign & Conservative scholarship program for young conservatives who are soon planning on heading to college.

5) Video making initiative from the YRNF

------------------------------

If you are planning on attending the meeting and have still not contacted me, please do so ASAP.
Also, if you will be unable to attend the meeting but have anything that you would like me to share at the meeting, please get that info to me ASAP.

There are two more days to vote on our blog question of who you think would be the best choice as a running mate for John McCain. Just go to http://PimaYRs.blogspot.com to vote. I will announce the winner at the meeting.

Thank you for all of your patience with me and support.

A Bit of Humor About a Problem That's Not So Funny

I work at a financial institution which will remain unnamed and our mortgage banker sent me this hilarious picture which was supposedly from a real fake ID.

All I can say is that if you are an illegal alien and you are trying to get a fake ID be sure that no matter how much you love your girlfriend or wife that you don't use a picture with the both of you on for the actual fake ID.

YR Leadership Conference Registration Deadline & Video Submissions

Wil Westholm, our YR State Chair, wanted me to pass on these two important items:

--------------------

I know this is really late notice if anybody would like to attend, but the Young Republican National Federation (YRNF) is pleased to invite you to the 2008 YR Leadership Conference (YRLC), "R GENERATION", in Washington, D.C. from April 30-May 4. There will be numerous national Republican leaders speaking at this conference and special private tours of the White House are being offered.

The early registration deadline for this is APRIL 11.
If you are interested in attending this conference, please visit http://www.yrlc2008.net/ order to register. This will be a very exciting conference and training seminar to attend during this very exciting election year.

--------------------

Second-

Anybody who has skills in film or vodeo making, we want you to be involved in our nationwide YR initiative to make short video segments explaining why you are Republicans. The YRNF will use some of these videos at the upcoming YRLC in DC. Please submit your video by April 12 if possible if you want your video to be played at the YRLC. This video submission campaign is meant to use social networking and video to reach out to young voters.

This from Karen Sautter and our very own Wil Westholm who are leading this video campaign:

Recognizing that young people will be key in the upcoming election, we developed a concept called "This is my Party" that features YRs in videos talking about why they are proud to be Republican. We believe that young voters will identify with our Party if we make it clear what we stand for and allow that message to resonate. But we need YRs to take ownership of this campaign and make videos of themselves to communicate our message.
